The person best suited for this position would be someone regularly involved with/aware of/watching (all) animal legislative activity at the state and national level, informing the  membership of what’s happening, what’s coming up, what they can do as individuals and private groups to combat some of the proposals in their states/communities. The candidate would have involvement with and awareness of the following groups:  AFA, ASA, NAIA, National Reptile Group, etc.  We are prepared to make space for regular (or periodic) feature articles in the NFSS Journal relating to legislative updates/activity.   This person would be in attendance at quarterly (on line) BOD meetings to provide the BOD with updates as to current legislative activity.

Requirements: A basic knowledge of the legislative process as it relates to aviculture.

Job Description: Shall be responsible along with Regional Vice Presidents in keeping abreast of both local and national legislative activities that could affect bird owners, breeders and exhibitors. Further, to report possible efforts that are not in our best interests to the Board of Directors in a timely manner. Shall be responsible for working with other local and national avicultural organizations in protecting our right to own and enjoy our birds. Shall, at Board direction, report all developments to our membership, in the way then set forth by the Board of Directors.
