Paradise Tanager

(Tangara chilenis)

The Paradise Tanager (Tangara chilenis) is a beautiful 6″ tanager which inhabits Columbia to Brazil and Bolivia. They tend to live quietly at moderate heights and do little to call attention to themselves.

Both sexes are alike in general appearance, and they must be sexed by their behavior. The Paradise Tanager, though brilliantly colored, is said to have little or no song.

The female lays 2-3 eggs, Incubation time is 13-14 days.

A good diet includes soaked, dried currants and raisins, grapes, cut pear and apple, dates, figs, bananas, and halved oranges. In addition, insects (mealworms, fruit flies, waxworms, maggots and crickets) are appreciated.
